Plants Can Talk Too 2009-06-12 15:16:00 NASA has developed a new microchip that will help the environment. June 12, 2009 - Did you ever think that plants would be able to talk to you? Some may say that’s impossible. I used to think the same way until I read an article recently posted on MSNBC.com entitled “Text messages can quench plants’ thirst”. The article describes a microchip that can be placed on a plant leaf which, when the plant needs to be watered, will send a text message to a specified phone. NASA has been developing this microchip for use in future missions to Mars. This will allow the astronauts to conserve their water supply as they attempt to grow plants in space. You might say, “Why don’t we use this here”. They will be. For drought stricken areas farmers will be able to attach the microchip to their crops allowing for less water to be used. Also with less water being pumped less electricity will be used in pumping that water to the farmer’s crops.
